Following our deliciously camp review of Another Simple Favour, we had the pleasure of chatting with director Paul Feig and star Henry Golding at the recent London Special Screening to discuss their return to this gloriously twisted universe.

Leaning Into What Audiences Love

When asked about the outrageous twists in the sequel, Golding revealed the team’s approach was quite deliberate. “To be honest, we really lent into what everybody loved of the first film and so that was like the twist, the unexpected turns and the outfits and how amazingly sort of camp it was and the dark comedy element,” Golding shared. “So Paul was a genius and was like, ‘we’ll give them what they want.'”

This sequel certainly delivers on that promise, serving up the same delicious blend of fashion, martinis, and shocking plot developments that made the original such a hit with audiences.

A Character Transformation

For Golding, returning to the role of Sean came with exciting new opportunities. “To be honest, the entire sort of character switch. I think Sean is a completely different guy this time around,” he explained. “So I was able to have a lot of fun, be outrageous and have some pretty iconic scenes, I think.”

When playfully asked what confidence tips his character might offer in a TED Talk, Golding quipped: “Get to the bottom of a bottle, lose all inhibitions and have two women make your life miserable.”

Feig: From Bridesmaids to Another Stylish Hit

Paul Feig, whose breakthrough with ‘Bridesmaids’ changed the landscape for female-led comedies, continues his streak of character-driven storytelling with this sequel. Reflecting on his journey since ‘Bridesmaids’, Feig recalled the pressure of that film: “There was a lot of pressure on that one and a lot of people were putting a lot on a female-led comedy and so we proved that there’s an audience which is wonderful.”

Eagle-eyed viewers might spot Feig’s own gin brand making appearances throughout the film. The director confirmed his cocktail preference with a smile: “I’m a martini man, that’s my whole thing, that’s why I invented my own gin because I knew exactly how I wanted my martini to taste.” His preference? “Put the twist, no olives, no olives, ever.”

A Camp Classic in the Making

Another Simple Favour seamlessly blends glamour, humour, and shocking twists in a package that’s as stylish as it is entertaining. As our review notes, the film delivers the perfect summer escapism with excellent performances and an unapologetically camp sensibility.
