It’s rare to find a show that not only captivates audiences but also pushes the boundaries of representation and character complexity. Apple TV+’s new series ‘Prime Target’ does just that, as revealed in an exclusive interview with stars Leo Woodall and Quintessa Swindell.

Leo Woodall, who plays Edward in the series, shared his excitement about taking on a role that diverges from his previous work. “I’d never taken on a role like Ed,” Woodall confessed. “I’d previously played guys who were very outgoing and sociable… Ed is none of those things. He’s not good with people, he doesn’t like people, he doesn’t like going out.”

Woodall’s enthusiasm for this new territory is palpable, promising viewers a nuanced and compelling performance.

Quintessa Swindell, a non-binary actor known for their thoughtful approach to role selection, praised the show’s handling of queer representation. “I love how Leo’s character is represented because it’s not something that’s very obvious, it’s just like a byproduct of who he naturally is and doesn’t need to be discussed,” Swindell remarked.

This subtle yet powerful approach to character sexuality aligns with Swindell’s personal mission to broaden people’s understanding of gender identity and sexuality. They emphasised the importance of representation that doesn’t rely on stereotypes, stating, “If that doesn’t broaden people’s understanding of like who can be trans, queer, non-binary, gender identity, sexuality, then for me I’m kind of like maybe it’s for someone else.”

While specific plot details remain under wraps, both actors hinted at the show’s unique appeal. Woodall was drawn to the challenge of portraying a character unlike any he’d played before, while Swindell was intrigued by the broader scope of the series and the opportunity for stunt work.

The binge-worthy nature of the show, combined with the actors’ enthusiasm and the show’s fresh take on character representation, positions ‘Prime Target’ as a must-watch series.

As ‘Prime Target’ prepares to make its debut on Apple TV+, viewers can anticipate a show that not only entertains but also challenges preconceptions and offers a new perspective on character development and representation in television.

Prime Target is streaming exclusively on Apple TV+ from Wednesday January 22, 2025.
