Beloved Drag Queen Shares Spooky Encounters During Filming of New OUTflix Series
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Divina De Campo has revealed the chilling encounters that left her “scared stiff” during filming for the groundbreaking new reality series, Drag in the Dark, streaming now on OUTflix.
The innovative show pairs UK drag queens with the South East Paranormal Team to investigate haunted locations across the country. For Divina, the experience tapped into a lifelong fascination with the supernatural that began in her childhood home.
“The house that I grew up in was haunted, and so was the next door as well,” Divina shared in an exclusive interview with Queerly’s Stage and Screen Podcast. “My mum was next door one day and they could hear a child crying. No kid in the house. So yeah, creepy and weird.”
Strange Happenings During Filming
Divina’s episode features her exploring what she describes as a deeply unsettling location filled with unusual architecture and collected artifacts.
“It felt like people had been murdered there,” she explained. “The building itself, they’ve sort of taken what is already a very strange and unusual shaped house and then added on to it. So there’s all these like turrets and spiral staircases and wood panelling.”
The most terrifying moment came when Divina sensed an unwelcome presence during filming:
“I felt like we were being watched. We were all in one side of the room and there was something in the corner. I felt like I could see it, like it was just out of the corner of your eye. I was scared stiff. I was sort of stuck with my feet in one place going, ‘No, I can’t go in that corner. No, there’s something awful up there.’”
Unexplained Activity Off-Camera
Even more disturbing were the occurrences that happened when cameras weren’t rolling:
“There were things that fell off shelves and stuff like that, and nobody was near it,” Divina revealed. “At one point something falls off the wall and nobody’s even near the wall. It just sort of leapt off the wall.”
The experience has sparked a deeper interest in paranormal investigation for the drag performer, who mentioned being told by the team that she might have “a psychic connection.”
Who Would Divina Haunt?
When asked which celebrity she would haunt for a day if given the chance, Divina didn’t name names but made her choice clear: “Well, she lives in a castle that’s infested with mould and I would ruin her entire house. I’d pick everything up and turn it all over and then she’d lose all of her billions of pounds and she can leave us all alone.”
For viewers who might find themselves spooked after watching Drag in the Dark, Divina offers this advice: “Get some sage and walk around your house, burn the sage and get rid of the evil spirits out of your house and you’ll be right.”
