In an exclusive interview with Queerly, drag superstars Cheryl The Queen and Tia Kofi have given fans a glimpse into the upcoming DragCon 2025. Set to take place at London’s ExCeL Centre on January 10 and 11, this event promises to be a spectacular celebration of all things drag.

A Weekend of Queer Celebration

Cheryl The Queen, a veteran of six previous DragCons, expressed her excitement for the event: “DragCon is just a weekend of celebration of queer art, campery, and just a whole lot of love.” She emphasised the event’s core message, quoting RuPaul: “If you can’t love yourself, how the hell are you going to love somebody else?”

Tia Kofi, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World Season 2, added her enthusiasm for the event’s atmosphere. “It’s really fortunate that we have something like this within the community, that we have this opportunity to sort of like share and come together”, she said.

Fashion and Performances Galore

Fans can expect jaw-dropping looks from both queens. Tia teased a medieval-inspired ensemble, describing her ethos for the weekend as “Game of Thrones, but make it fashion.” Cheryl, known for her themed booths, hinted cryptically, “You can expect to be floating on Cloud Nine with me this DragCon.”

The event will feature over 200 queens from around the world, with performances throughout the day celebrating international drag artists. “It’s just about bringing so many drag artists together, celebrating what we all do, because we all bring something so different to this industry,” Cheryl explained.

A Safe Space for Aspiring Drag Performers

Both queens spoke about DragCon’s welcoming atmosphere for newcomers to drag. Cheryl described it as “probably the safest space to explore,” with numerous vendors offering wigs, costumes, and opportunities to learn the craft. Tia encouraged aspiring performers to “come to the booths and ask your favourite drag artists questions about how they started.”

With over 200 queens in attendance, including international stars like Sasha Velour, DragCon 2025 is set to be a drag extravaganza. A new feature, the Drag Race Universe Alley, will allow fans to meet queens from various international franchises in rotating time slots.
