Beyoncé, Jean Smart and ‘Hacks’ also receive recognition as GALECA announces its 16th annual television honours
The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics (GALECA) has announced the nominations for its 16th annual Dorian TV Awards, recognising excellence across mainstream and LGBTQ+ content in television and streaming.
Apple TV+’s workplace drama Severance, Disney+’s Star Wars spinoff Andor, and HBO/Max’s The White Lotus lead this year’s contenders with six nominations each. HBO/Max’s The Last of Us and medical drama The Pitt follow closely with five nominations apiece.
Drama and Comedy Categories
The Best TV Drama category features a competitive lineup with Severance, Andor, The White Lotus, The Last of Us, and The Pitt all vying for the top honour.
In comedy, HBO/Max’s Hacks – which previously won the Dorian Award in this category in 2021 and 2024 – earned six nominations. Other comedy contenders include HBO/Max’s Somebody Somewhere with four nods, ABC’s Abbott Elementary with three, Apple TV+’s The Studio, and HBO/Max’s The Rehearsal.
“By loving-up series like ‘Hacks,’ ‘Somebody Somewhere,’ and even ‘The Rehearsal’ and ‘Andor’ – a sci-fi story of the beginnings of a major rebellion – Dorian Award voters once again have shown they have a special affinity for stories of self-discovery and pushing for more,” said GALECA Executive Director Diane Anderson-Minshall.
LGBTQ+ Representation
The Best LGBTQ TV Show category includes Disney+’s Agatha All Along, HBO/Max’s Hacks, Netflix’s Heartstopper, Amazon Prime’s Overcompensating, and HBO/Max’s Somebody Somewhere.
GALECA continues its tradition of highlighting underrepresented programming with the Best Unsung TV Show category, which includes HBO’s Fantasmas, Paramount+’s Evil, and Amazon Prime’s Overcompensating among its nominees.
Performance Categories
The non-gendered performance categories feature an impressive roster of talent. Drama performance nominees include Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), and Michelle Williams (Dying for Sex).
Comedy performance contenders include Uzo Aduba (The Residence), Jean Smart (Hacks), Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face), and Benito Skinner (Overcompensating).
The Best TV Musical Performance category includes nominations for Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter medley at the Ravens vs. Texans Halftime Show and Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s Wizard of Oz/Wicked medley at the 97th Academy Awards.
Network Dominance
HBO/Max leads all networks and streaming platforms with 39 nominations, followed by Netflix with 22, Apple TV+ with 13, and Disney+ with 11.
The winners will be announced on Tuesday, July 8 at 8am PST.
